By Feet to Piazza Scaravilli;
From Railway Station "Bologna Centrale"
The train station is about 20-30 minutes of walk from piazza Scaravilli.
Outside the station cross the street and turn left in direction of Via dell'Indipendenza. Go straight down Via dell'Indipendenza and then take Via Irnerio on the left. Follow Via Irnerio for about 0.6 km before turning right into Via Bertoloni. Walk down Via Bertoloni to the junction with Via delle Belle Arti. Keep going straight into Via 20 Ottobre 1944, at the corner with Biblioteca "W.Bigiavi". The street ends in Piazza Scaravilli.
The entrance to the building will be on your left under "Facolta' di Economia".Here you can find a detailed map of the directions.
From Piazza Maggiore
Piazza maggiore is the heart of Bologna's city centre. It is one of the finest squares in all of Italy and is at only ten minutes of walk from the department.
At the square you should turn into Via F. Rizzoli going ahead towards the two leaning towers ("due torri"). You will find Via Zamboni on the left. Follow it going away from the towers. Past Piazza Verdi where the Opera is located on your left, continue along via zamboni. You will see a small square opening on the left. It is piazza Scaravilli.Here you can find a detailed map of the directions.
By Bus to Piazza Scaravilli;
On almost every bus you can purchase tickets at the machines on board (one euro for one-hour's fare).
Unfortunately piazza Scaravilli is not directly reached by bus. Nonetheless, in front of the train station you will find the stop of busses 36, 37 that all go close to the department. Take one and get off at "fermata" San Donato ("bus stop" in italian). It is at the end of Via Irnerio and you have to walk back this street before turning left into Via Bertoloni. Go straight down Via Bertoloni and you will arrive at piazza Scaravilli.
Getting From the Airport to the City Center
G. Marconi International Airport, which serves Bologna, is about 10km to the north-west of the city. You have two options for reaching the center from the airport:
- "Aerobus" shuttle service. The ticket (5 euros) may be purchased on this bus that links the Airport with the railway station. Travel time is about 20 minutes.
- Taxi. The trip takes around 15 minutes (barring traffic jams) and should cost around 20,00 Euro.
Getting by Train
Bologna Railway Station is quickly reachable by train from all major Italian cities as well as many other European cities.
Here we report the Eurostar Alta-velocità's length of journey to/from Bologna:
* Rome: 2.45 hours
* Milan: 1.05 hours
* Venice: 1.40 hours
* Florence: 1 hour
Getting by Car
We warmly advise not to arrive in downtown Bologna by car. Most of the roads in the historic center are narrow and forbidden to out-of-province vehicles.
- Coming from Milan, Rome, take the motorway A1
- Coming from Venice, take the motorway A13
Here you can find a map of the motorways around Bologna.
Arriving on the motorway from any direction, get on the Bologna "tangenziale" (the Beltway) and look for exit 7, near the Fiera (Trade Fair) district. The exit is directly north of the city. From the exit, follow Via Stalingrado towards "Centro". Once you arrive at Porta Mascarella, after having crossed the bridge over the railroad tracks, turn left and follow Viale Berti Pichat to Porta San Donato. Take Via Irnerio on the right and park the car. To reach the department follow the instructions "by feet to piazza Scaravilli".
Here you can find a detailed map of the directions.
Parking Garages are scattered around the city center. At the beginning of Via Irnerio, in front of Parco della Monagnola there is Piazza VIII Agosto. There you will find a big parking garage, open 24 hours.
