Welcome to the gateway for graduate studies in economics at the University of Bologna. The graduate program offers comprehensive studies in economics with a Master of Science (LMEC) followed either by a PhD in Economics (PhDEcon) or a PhD in Law and Economics (EDLE).
The program trains a selected group of outstanding and international scholars for a career as economists in academic institutions or in research departments of corporations, public organizations, financial institutions and the government. The purpose is to educate scientists who will master economic theory and quantitative tools for innovative research and analysis in economics.
The program is designed to guide and involve students through intense learning and research activities by instructors who are also internationally renowned researchers. The considerable diversification of research areas covered by the members of the Department of economics and their international reputation provide an outstanding environment where students can learn and do their research about most fields in economics.
The graduate program in economics is structured as follows:
Master in Economics - LMEC (M.Sc.) is a two-year program. Students awarded the LMEC degree will have acquired a rigorous training in economics to pursue admission in the most prestigious Ph.D. programs all over the world or a successful career in international organizations, the public sector or business.
Then students interested to develop research skills may continue with one of the following two PhD programs:
Ph.D. in Economics - PhDEcon PhD students develop their research skills by attending advanced courses, seminars and workshops. They are followed with close supervision by distinguished academic researchers at the cutting edge of world research in their fields, in one of the best economics department in Italy. This international environment offers to Ph.D. students the opportunity to make important international contacts for their careers.
Ph. D. in Law and Economics - EDLE EDLE is the European Doctorate in Law and Economics, offered by the Universities of Bologna, Hamburg and Rotterdam with the collaboration of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research of Mumbai. The programme prepares economists and lawyers of high promise for an academic career in a research field of growing importance or for responsibe positions in goverment, research organizations and international consulting groups.
